Lavoura, 2019

Lavoura is the Portuguese word for the preparation of the land before cultivation and sowing.

Inspired by my experience of agricultural life and working in the fields, this ceramic collection evokes the ploughed earth during the first stage of the sowing season. Each piece reflects the materiality of the land and the gestures that precede the emergence of a new landscape.

Hand-shaped in Portuguese faience and finished with a glaze developed from dark beer, the eleven ceramic works are distinguished by their forms, textures and subtle tonal variations, ranging from matte pink to glossy brown. Together, they reveal the unique character of the material and the making process, making every piece a singular work of art.
