This series of abstract landscape paintings is rooted in two defining aspects of my life: my agricultural work in Alentejo and the enduring connection to my birthplace, Madeira Island. Together, these experiences shape a visual language that explores memory, place and the rhythms of the natural world.

Inspired by the changing seasons, agricultural cycles and the shifting colours of the landscape, these paintings reflect both the quiet expanses of the Alentejo and the nostalgia of the Atlantic Ocean that surrounds Madeira. The horizon line serves as the starting point for each composition, while colour, texture and gesture evoke the ever-changing relationship between sky and earth.

Through an intuitive and experimental process, I seek to capture the essence of the landscape rather than its literal appearance. Chance, materiality and the interaction between paint and surface become essential elements of the work, allowing each painting to emerge as a unique abstract landscape. Rather than representing a specific place, these works invite viewers to imagine their own horizons and personal connections to the landscape.

While grounded in abstraction, my practice is informed by the legacy of twentieth-century American painting, particularly Color Field Painting, Action Painting, Abstract Expressionism and the New York School. These influences are reinterpreted through my own experience of landscape, resulting in paintings that balance observation, memory and material exploration.
