Abstract Landscape Paintings, (an ongoing process)

This series of paintings explores two moments of my life: the living with agricultural life and working in the field. It represents the passing of the seasons and the different times of sowing and the natural landscape of Alentejo; and, the nostalgia with which I recall my birthplace, the island of Madeira, and its sea.

Having the horizon line as the beginning of the entire artistic process; the colors of the sky, the relief, and the texture of the landscape are vivid and recognizable aspects in these paintings.

In this way, I try to understand the colors and movements of the sky and the earth, looking for the essence of the landscape itself, letting chance, risk, and accidents in the relationship between the medium and the surface of the support flow in favor of the resulting object: a painting, which I call the Abstract Landscape. Hoping to offer something singular and unique, wherein each painting, each observer can imagine a different landscape.

These paintings must be seen as abstract since I keep my attention on the characteristics of the medium and the surfaces of the support. Having influences from the American art movements of the 20th century, Color Field Painting and Action Painting, Abstract Expressionism, and the New York School.
