Conversa entre imaginário e memória, 2022
conversation between memory and imagination constitutes a series of paintings evoking the landscapes from which they arise: the Burquilheira dam, in Alentejo, and Tortuguero, a peninsula in Costa Rica.
Laura Rebelo juxtaposes, mixes, splits layers and layers of color, which flow into the chromatic universe that is made up of the dark green landscape of the Alentejo cork forest that surrounds the dam and the jungle that surrounds Tortuguero, by the color of the river water that goes to Tortuguero, and the lilac color of the late afternoon sky and the moonrise over the Alentejo dam.
conversation between memory and imagination is the plastic and visual rehearsal of the intersection of the physical landscape and the landscape that constantly crosses the artist's imagination and memory.
«Now that I write, I think about how, often, when I paint and choose colors for landscapes, I travel down memory lane, painting and crossing the Alentejo landscape that surrounds me daily and the landscapes of my travels».
The conversation between memory and the imaginary is not the mere representation of landscapes, it is the pictorial materialization of the places of their own co-creation, which, through formal abstraction, makes the imaginary and the real intersect — in the same way as the end of day and the beginning of night meet.
